Box Score CORAL GABLES, Fla.- Miami shot 51 percent from the field in a 70-39 win over Savannah State in a game played at the BankUnited Center before a crowd of 4,274.
 
The Hurricanes opened the contest with a 20-7 run.
 
Down by 17 with 3:41 left, Savannah State (3-7) put together a 10-0 run to trim their deficit to 30-23.
 
Miami ended the half with two free throws each from Deandre Burnett and Angel Rodriguez.
 
The Tigers held Miami without a field goal the final 4:24 of the first half.
 
Miami led 34-23 at intermission.
 
The Hurricanes opened the second period much like the first period, a 20-7 run, to expand their advantage to 54-30 with 6:03 left.
 
A layup and a free throw by Saadiq Muhammad got SSU's deficit down to 21 but the Hurricanes responded with 12 straight points to go ahead 66-33 with 2:27 remaining.
 
Much of the Tigers production came from their reserves.
 
Demarcus Bryant came off the bench to score nine points for the Tigers.
 
Alante Fenner added eight points while Jamal Norman had six rebounds.
 
As a team, SSU shot 32.6 percent from the floor .
 
The Tigers only had six attempts from the free throw line.
 
The 20th ranked Hurricanes (8-1) out-rebounded Savannah State 34 to 24.
 
Rodriguez scored 17 points for UM.
