Men’s Golf Team Claim 2014 Tiger Fall Invite Title

SAVANNAH, Ga. – After trailing Florida A&M by a single stroke in the first round, the Savannah State men's golf team improved to a six-stroke lead over the Rattlers Sunday, claiming the 2014 SSU Tiger Fall Invitational title.
 
The Tigers finished with a team score of 589 after shooting a 294 on Sunday, and a 295 on Saturday.
 
SSU senior Travis Roe shot a 137 in the tournament after carding a tournament low 66 on Sunday, finishing 7 under par to claim individual medalist honors. Teammate Scott Rogers finished with a 74 on Sunday for a tournament score of 145, claiming the runner-up hardware.

6393Trevor Podner and Brandon Neals finished tied for 14th, each shooting a 155 for the tournament. Podner closed out the final round with an 80, while Neals improved his first day round by a single stroke, carding a 78.
 
Devon Jakes rounded out the Tigers with a 160. Jakes improved his first round score by six strokes, carding a 77 on Sunday.
 
In the NCAA Division I bracket, Florida A&M finished runner-up in the tournament with a team score of 595. The Rattlers finished Sunday with a 301 after opening with a 294.
 
Virginia State finished third overall and claimed the NCAA Division II bracket title with a team score of 632 (322, 310). Edward Waters finished second in Division II and fourth overall with a team score of 634.
 
North Carolina Central finished fifth overall with a team score of 645, followed by Morehouse College (654), and Alabama A&M (701).
 
Playing as an individual, SSU's Christian Parker finished tied for eighth with a 150 (77, 73). Kevin Metzger closed out the tournament with a 153 (75, 78). Chris Faketty shot a 159 (78, 81), followed by Patrick Snarr (161).
 
In the women's division, SSU was defeated by Alabama State who claimed the title with a team score of 604 (306, 298). The Lady Tigers finished with a team score of 701 (352, 349).
 
Sydney Woolfolk led the Lady Tigers, carding a 171 (83, 88) in the tournament. Rachelle Orme finished three strokes behind Woolfolk with a 174 (89, 85).

Abigale Drew and Jocelyn Williams each shot 178 for the tournament, followed by Cheyenne Willard (199). SSU newcomer Margaret Wilson, playing as an individual, finished with a 181 (86, 95).
 
Alabama State's Chanelle Avaricio claimed medalist honors in the women's division with a 144. Avaricio improved on her first round 73, with a 71 on Sunday, finishing at even par.
 
The 36-hole, two-round tournament was played on the Championship Course at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.
