SSU Falls To Gamecocks

Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Ala.- Terel Hall scored a career-high 24 points but Savannah State would fall to Jacksonville State 74-71, in  a game played at Pete Matthews Coliseum. 
 
Hall made 7 of 10 field goal attempts and hit 9 of 12 free throw attempts. The senior guard also had seven assists and four rebounds.
 
The crowd of 709 saw the game tied at 31 at intermission but the Gamecocks opened the second period with a 13-2 run to grab a 44-33 lead with 16:06 left in the game.
 
JSU extended their advantage to 51-39 with 10:19 remaining but Savannah State trimmed their deficit to three at the 3:53 mark after a layup by Javaris Jenkins.
 
Jacksonville State led 69-61 with 48 seconds left but Savannah State's Demarcus Bryant hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull the Tigers (2-4) within three with 19 seconds remaining.
 
The Gamecocks stretched their cushion to six with five seconds left before Jenkins hit a 3-pointer with one second remaining for the final points of the contest.
 
Jenkins and Saadiq Muhammad each had nine points and six rebounds for the Tigers. Alante Feener also chipped in nine points before fouling out.
 
After making 12 of 27 shots from the field in the opening half, the Tigers shot 52 percent from the floor in the second period. SSU shot 41.7 percent from 3-point range.
 
The game had four ties and eight lead changes. Both teams had 33 rebounds.
 
JSU jumped out to a 18-8 start before the Tigers strung together a 15-4 run to take a 23-22 lead with 5:06 left in the first half.
 
SSU led by four with just over two minutes left but a pair of free throws by Jeremy Watson cut the Tigers lead to 30-28.
 
After a free throw by Muhammad gave Savannah State a 31-28 advantage, the Gamecocks' Avery Moore nailed a 3-pointer with one second left to send both squads into the locker room tied at 31.
 
Watson had 15 points and 14 rebounds for JSU (3-3).
 
Jacksonville shot 40.4 percent from the field and made 29 of 33 free throw attempts.
 
The game was a part of the Global Sports Hoop Showcase.
