Men’s Golf Compete In Black College Hall Of Fame

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Savannah State men's golf team finished fifth overall, out a 17-team field,  at the annual Black College Hall of Fame match, held each year at the Browns Mill Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
The Tigers shot a two-round team score of 587. They opened the tournament with a team score of 295 in the first round, and improved by a few strokes in the second round with a 292.
 
Travis Roe led the Tigers, finishing tied for 11th with a two-round score of 143. Roe opened with a 75, and improved in the second round, carding a 68.
 
Trevor Podner followed Roe in 13th place with a two round score of 144. Podner opened with a 68 and closed the tournament out with a 76. Brandon Neals shot a 149 (76 and 73), followed by freshmen Kevin Metzger (151) and Chris Faketty (163).
 
Three Savannah State newcomers played in the tournament as individuals. Freshman Riley Keagle shot a 145 for the tournament, finishing in 15th place overall. Keagle opened with a 69 and carded a 76 in the second round.
 
Freshman Devon Jakes tied for 19th place with a 147, recording a 70 and 77 in the tournament. Sophomore transfer Patrick Snarr shot a 163 (77 and 86), finishing 51st in the individual rankings.
 
Alabama State won the overall team competition with a two-round score of 556 (276 and 280), followed by Jackson State (563), Tennessee State (577), and Florida A&M (584). Alabama State's Francis Berthiaume won individual medalist honors with a two-round score of 136.
 
Out of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Florida A&M led, followed by SSU, Maryland Eastern Shore finished in 8th place and North Carolina Central in 9th place.
 
The MEAC added men's golf to its roster of sports in the 2013-14 season. The first MEAC men's golf Championship in the modern era was hosted by Savannah State in April of this year. (Read more about it here).
 
The Tigers continue the fall schedule with a trip to the annual Virginia State Fall Classic in Petersburg, Virginia on October 11.
