Men’s Golf Compete In Old Dominion/Outerbanks Invitational

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The Savannah State men's golf team finished in 15th place at the fifth annual Old Dominion/Outerbanks Invitational at the Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powells Point, North Carolina this week.
 
SSU shot a three-round team score of 939. The Tigers gradually improved over the three-day tournament, opening with 318 on Sunday in the first 18-holes. They improved on Monday, shooting 313, and finished up on Tuesday with 308.
 
Travis Roe led the Tigers with a three-round score of 227. In the first round, Roe shot a 78, but trailed teammate Trevor Podner who opened with 76.
 
Roe carded a 77 in the second round and finished with 72 in the third round.  Podner shot 81 in the second round and closed out with 79, finishing with 236.
 
Brandon Neals and Scott Rogers each opened with 82. Neals improved in the second round with 73, and closed out with 82 for a final score of 237. Rogers carded 82 on Monday, and improved on Tuesday with 75, closing out with 239.
 
SSU freshman Kevin Metzger shot 252 for the tournament. Metzger opened with an 85, and gradually improved over the final two rounds with marks of 84 and 83.
 
James Madison won the tournament, leading the 18-team field with a team score of 858 (297, 278, and 283). Campbell's Gaston Bertinotti won the individual title, recording 205 (70, 67 and 68).
 
The Tigers return to action with the SSU Tiger Fall Invitational Nov. 7-9 at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah.
