COLUMBIA, S.C.- Savannah State's cross country runner
Corey Jones posted a time of 10:50.34 to finish third in the Gamecock Open held at Hilton Field on Fort Jackson.

Jones, the top SSU runner in the race, was followed by
Michael Smith,
Micah Richards,
Kenneth Nealy,
Brandon Davis and Randolph Barratt.

Smith finished 5th with a time of 11:18.61, Richards was 6th with a run of 11:25.30, Nealy was 7th with a time of 11:50.32, Davis placed 8th with a time of 11:58.04 and Barratt was 10th with a time of 12:51.78.

Charleston Southern edged the Tigers in the head-to-head matchup 27 to 29.

In the women's action, Asea Mayfield was the top finisher for Savannah State. Mayfield finished the two mile race 19th overall with a time of 13:41.47.

Kortney Sizemore was 23rd,
Alysia Potts was 29th, Ashely Goss was 33rd while Kacie Wimpye was 39th.

Sizemore had a time of 14:51.08, Potts had a time of 16:10.57, Goss had a time of 16:55.89 and Wimpye finished with a run of 18:36.71.

Other participating schools were South Carolina, Charleston Southern, Benedict, Paine, Voorhees and Claflin.
