Tigers Top The Field At Jimmy Carnes Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In their second event of the 2014 indoor track and field season the Savannah State men's and women's teams garnered several top finishes at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, held at the Florida O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida.

Senior Kristopher Ballou won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.69. Junior Cameron Hall topped the field in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.43. Hall qualified with a time of 7.48. In the same event Lemaar Shakir placed seventh with a time of 7.81.

In the 200 meter dash, Kenshard Hamilton placed second with a time of 22.46. In the 55 meter dash, Hamilton garnered a sixth place finish with a time of 6.37. Newcomer DeAndre Pearsons placed seventh in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.88.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the SSU team of Brandon Davis, Hall, Shakir, and Justin Leggett placed second with a time of 3:23.89. In the same relay, the team of Felton Chinn, Ballou, Randy Thomas and Leggett finished in sixth with a time of 3:32.39.

Dolphurs Hayes recorded a distance of 4.10 meters for an 11th place finish in the pole vault competition. Newcomer Timothy Jackson also had a vault of 4.10m for a 13th place finish.

On the women's side of the meet, the SSU team of Jazy Seay-Blane, Chavonta Roberts, Shakira Bartley, and Aluntrea Davis placed second in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:03.15.

Jaymi White finished second in the pentathlon with a total score of 3174. White had second place finishes in the high jump and long jump in the pentathlon.

Elsewhere in the field, Indiah Bell recorded a distance of 11.43 meters in the triple jump for a fourth place finish. Newcomer Kortney Grey garnered a seventh place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.47m.

Alysia Potts recorded a vault of 2.70m for a ninth place finish in the pole vault competition.

In the 200 meter dash, Seay-Blane ran a 25.50 for a seventh place finish. Asia Stinson finished 12th in the same event with a time of 25.93.

SSU continues the 2014 campaign with the Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston-Salem on January 31 at the JDL Fast Track.
