The Game

SAVANNAH STATE TIGERS (1-2, 0-0 MEAC)
The Savannah State Tigers improved to 1-2 after their first win of the season over Division II rival Fort Valley State University. The Tigers toughed out a 27-20 win in the team's home opener. The win was also head coach Earnest Wilson's first as a collegiate head football coach.

SSU will look to gain traction from last week's victory as the team heads to Miami, Florida to take on the University of Miami on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Sun Life Stadium.

SSU quarterback Antonio Bostick is expected to get his first start of the season against Miami. Senior receiver Simon Heyward also had a break-out performance with a team-leading five receptions for 115 yards in the game. Heyward is SSU's leading receiver with eight catches for 178 yards.

Defensively, senior John Wilson, who led the team in interceptions a year ago, had three picks against Fort Valley. The team's leading tackler, Trevion Ashford, will sit out the Miami game with a shoulder injury. But, second leading tackler, Justin Dixon, is expected to lead the defense against Miami.

SSU last played in Miami, Florida in 2008 when the Tigers loss 21-49 to Howard University in Traz-Powell Stadium at the Miami Football Classic.
