SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State softball coach 
Jose Gonzalez garnered his 100
th coaching win, as the Lady Tigers swept a rain-delayed doubleheader with South Carolina State, Sunday evening on the Tiger Softball Field in Savannah.
In his sixth season as SSU's head coach, Gonzalez improves his overall coaching record to 101-156, and 19-10 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), with the sweep of South Carolina State.
The Lady Tigers broke a seven game losing streak, and earned back a winning record on Sunday. SSU downed the Lady Bulldogs 5-1 in the opening game, behind 10 hits. In game two, freshman 
Amanda McDowell led the Lady Tigers from the mound, as SSU sealed up the twinbill sweep with a 6-1 victory.
SSU improves to 23-22 and 7-7 in the conference as S.C. State falls to 16-26 and 4-9. The Lady Tigers end the regular season with the final game of the series on Monday. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.
SSU is looking to seal up a third place finish in the MEAC. North Carolina A&T finished the regular season with a 7-8 overall record. A win from Savannah State on Monday will seal up a third seed into the MEAC Championship next week; a loss will put SSU in the fourth seed, as NCAT wins the tie-breaker, after beating the Lady Tigers 3-2 in their series earlier this season.
100 Wins
Thunderstorms in the Savannah area postponed the original doubleheader that was scheduled for Saturday, May 4. After another storm dumped a flood of water early Sunday morning, teams were forced to push the games back later in the day. After two delays, senior 
Madison Hedderly threw the first pitch at 4:37 p.m.

Cassie Standard were honored in ceremonies preceding the first game as they completed their tenure at Savannah State.
In coach Gonzalez' 100
th win, Hedderly pitched a gem for the Lady Tigers. She allowed only one run (no earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks in 7.0 innings of work.
She improved her season record to 17-9 overall. Hedderly will leave the Lady Tigers with several school records, including the best single-season ERA.  
The Lady Bulldogs opened the scoring in the first. Taylor-Anne Harris reached on an error and was later plated on a fielder's choice from Mikala Johnson.
SSU answered in the bottom of the second behind freshman 
Torrian Wright's 15
th home run of the season, tying the game at one. In her first year at Savannah State, Wright holds the school's single season record for home runs.
A quick and scoreless third inning led to a tied score in the fourth. 
Megan Uhrman singled to reach in the bottom of the frame after 
India Morgan reached on an error. Taylor singled through the left side to load the bases.
A single from 
Antonette Smith platted Uhrman. Later, freshman 
Michaela Patton doubled to left, scoring Smith and Taylor for a 4-1 SSU lead.
S.C. State failed to answer the runs in the remaining innings, as Hedderly held the Lady Bulldogs to only three hits in the final three innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, SSU added the final run of the game. 
Amber Hallman reached on a double to left, and was plated on a hard-hit single up the middle from Wright.
Vianney Gomez was tagged with her 13
th pitching loss of the season. She allowed five runs (two earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
Cianna Burt led the Lady Bulldogs from the plate, going 3-for-3. Wright led the Lady Tigers, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Hallman and Uhrman tacked on two hits apiece.
The Sweep
McDowell garnered her fifth pitching win of the season, holding the Lady Bulldogs to only two hits in a 6-1 game two win. She allowed one earned run with four walks and nine strikeouts.
Playing as the designated hitter, Hedderly led the Lady Tigers at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBI. SSU put up 21 hits in the doubleheader, with 11 coming in the nightcap.
After two scoreless innings, SSU got on the board in the bottom of the third. Hedderly blasted a single to left, scoring Hallman who reached on a single, and Patton who singled. Morgan hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Wright who walked for a 3-0 SSU advantage.
In the fourth, S.C. State went down 1-2-3 in the top of the frame. Hallman plated Smith with a single through the left side after Smith reached on a catcher's interference call.
Hedderly scored Hallman with a single to right field, to extend SSU's lead to 5-0.
S.C. State answered in the fifth. LaTavia Riley scored on a wild pitch after walking and advancing to third on a double from Kandyce Ranew.
In the bottom of the frame, SSU responded with the final run of the game. Smith reached with her fourth double of the season and was scored on a single from Patton.
A scoreless sixth, and three quick outs in the top of the seventh from S.C. State, sealed up the victory for the Lady Tigers.
Jazmin Robinson was tagged with her 9
th loss, after pitching 4.0 innings for the Lady Bulldogs. She allowed five earned runs on eight hits with three walks.
