Savannah State Falls In Overtime

Box Score NORFOLK, Va.- Justin Black hit the game-clinching 3-pointer with 33 seconds left as Morgan State defeated Savannah State 64-61 in overtime in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament.

The Tigers end their season with a 19-14 record.

SSU overcame a 10 point deficit in the second half with a 16-2 run to take a 49-45 lead with 5:32 remaining.

A pair of free throws by Devin Williams gave the Tigers a 53-49 edge with 1:48 on the clock but a 3-pointer by Black pulled MSU within one.

A dunk by Rashad Hassan gave Savannah State a 55-52 lead but another 3-pointer by Black tied the game with 40 seconds left.

Blake Bozeman missed a 3-pointer for the Bears at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, following a SSU turnover.

The only points in the overtime period for the Tigers came from Williams who made two 3-pointers.

Anthony Hubbard made a layup for the Bears but Williams drilled a 3-pointer to give SSU a 58-57 lead with 4:13 left.

After two free throws from Black, Williams made another 3-pointer to give Savannah State a 61-59 lead with 3:10 remaining.

Black, who finished with 20 points, made two free throws at the 1:50 mark to tie the game at 61 and hit the game winning 3-pointer after Bozeman missed a 3-point attempt and Hubbard got the offensive rebound.

Williams had 20 points for the Tigers followed by Hassan with 13 and Preston Blackman who had 10. Hassan had 9 rebounds while Arnold Louis added 11 rebounds to go with his 8 points.

The Morgan State (16-14) bench out-scored the SSU reserves 18-4.

In the first half, Morgan State jumped out to a 5-0 lead but the Tigers tied the game at 10 with 15:29 left.

SSU led 18-14 but the Bears rallied to take a 32-27 lead with 1:39 left before the half.

Morgan State led 35-29 at the break.

Black was one of four MSU players in double figures.

Morgan State out-rebounded the Tigers 37 to 31 and shot 45.5 percent from the floor.

It was the last game in a SSU uniform for seniors Cedric Smith, Blackman, Louis and Hassan.
