SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State softball team swept a doubleheader with Alabama A&M on Tuesday at the new Tiger Softball Field in Savannah. The Lady Tigers escaped a late rally in the seventh with a 9-7 victory in game one, and blanked the Bulldogs in the second game 7-0.
The Lady Tigers improve to 14-8 overall and extend their win streak to seven straight games. Alabama A&M falls to 5-11 overall.

Madison Hedderly led the Lady Tigers from the mound, pitching them to both victories. Hedderly is 11-4-1 overall this season with an 3.33 ERA after the sweep on Tuesday.
In game one Hedderly completed seven innings of work with eight strikeouts, allowing seven runs (three earned) on 12 hits.
Hedderly opened the scoring with a single to center, platting
Amber Hallman who reached on a single. Later,
Imani Gayle single to score Hedderly. Gayle, playing second base, led the Lady Tigers from the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
SSU blasted two more hits and took advantage of a pair of errors, scoring five more runs to end the first inning with a 7-1 lead.
In the bottom of the second, the Lady Tigers added two more runs. Hedderly was platted on a fielder's choice from
Rachel White after being walked.
Antonette Smith singled to center, scoring Gayle who reached on an error.
The Lady Tigers were scoreless through the remaining innings. Alabama A&M added a run in the third and fifth. Into the seventh, SSU maintained a 9-3 lead.
The Bulldogs Jasmin Riley singled to center in the top of the seventh, scoring LaQueesha Poe who reached on an error to open a four hit, four run rally for Alabama A&M.
Riley was later scored on a single from Nicole Norton after Bria Zeigler scored on an error. Meaghan Gray doubled to center, scoring Norton.
With two outs and the tying run at bat, Hedderly struck out Jasmine James to help the Lady Tigers escape with the win.
Cassan Brown was tagged with the pitching loss after six innings in the circle. She allowed nine runs (1 earned) on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers left nothing to chance in the second game. Hedderly pitched a stellar seven innings, allowing no runs on two hits, no walks and 12 strikeouts.
Hallman led the Lady Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Hedderly also went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Megan Uhrman was 2-for-4 with a double.
After three scoreless innings, SSU put a run up in the fourth. Gayle doubled to left, scoring Hedderly who reached on a double.
In the bottom of the fifth, Uhrman reached on a double, and was scored on a triple from Hallman.
Torrian Wright reached on an error that scored Hallman to lift the Lady Tigers to a 3-0 advantage into the sixth inning.
SSU shut the door on the Bulldogs in the sixth inning.
Tiffany Taylor doubled to reach and was later scored on a single from Smith.
Michaela Patton doubled to left center, scoring Smith and
Destiny Webster who singled.
Hallman singled to center field, scoring Patton for the final run of the game. The Lady Tigers outhit Alabama A&M 11-2 in the contest.
Gray was tagged with the pitching loss for Alabama A&M after 5.0 innings on the mound. She allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
The Lady Tigers return to action with two doubleheaders against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore this weekend. First pitch on Friday, March 15, is set for 1 p.m.
SSU concludes a 10 game home stand with a doubleheader against the University of Arkansas next week.
