HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Savannah State women's tennis team fell, 1-6, to George Mason University in Hilton Head, South Carolina Monday afternoon.
In single action, senior
Esmira Gheisary won the second court after Maya Hicks retired in the second set. Gheisary won the first set 6-3.
In the first and third courts, Savannah State fought to the end, falling in close sets to George Mason. Junior
Sandra Kristjansdottir fell 3-6 in the opening set and 4-6 in the second set to Brittany Pilkington.
In the third court,
Andrea Pavlovic dropped the first set, 2-6, to Erdenesuren Erdenebat, but continued to fight in the second set, losing a close 6-4 battle.
SSU sophomore
Nicole Ashiedu dropped the fourth court in straight sets, 0-6 and 0-6. Senior
Davita Washington, playing in the fifth court, fell 3-6 and 2-6 to Ekaterina Desiatnikova. Freshman
Tiffany Williams fell to Andrea London in the sixth position, 0-6 and 0-6.
In doubles action, the Lady Tiger team of Kristjansdottir and Ashiedu fell to Pilkington and Delaney 1-8 in the first court. Gheisary and Pavlovic dropped the second court to Hicks and Erdenebat 2-8.
Rounding out the doubles action, Washington and Williams fell in the third position, 2-8 to Desiatnikova and Londen.
Savannah State falls to 2-9 overall The Lady Tigers return to home courts on March 13. SSU host the University of Pittsburgh at 10 a.m.
