Wildcats Upend SSU

Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- Bethune-Cookman went the final 5:29 without a field goal but made 12 of 18 free throw attempts the rest of the way and managed to walk away with a 72-58 victory over the Tigers in Moore Gymnasium before a crowd of 1,561.

B-CU led 28-26 at the half but scored the first four points of the second period as part of a 17-6 run that expanded their lead to 45-32 with 13:12 on the clock.

The Wildcats (12-16, 7-6) maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the game.

A layup by Rashad Hassan cut SSU's deficit to 48-38 with 9:35 remaining but the Tigers could get no closer as Cookman responded with seven unanswered points to open up a 55-38 cushion with 8:42 left.

Cookman had 27 free throw attempts in the second half while SSU had 24 attempts for the game.

The Tigers (17-11, 10-3) out-rebouned B-CU 38-35 and shot 36.7 percent from the field.

Hassan and Preston Blackman led the way for SSU with 14 points apiece while Arnold Louis added 10 points. Hassan also had 15 rebounds while Louis grabbed nine.

Cookman led by as many as seven in the first half but Savannah State rallied to only trail 28-26 at intermission.

Adrian Coleman was one of four Cookman players in double figures. Coleman ended the night with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The Wildcats struggled to shot 34.5 percent from the floor in the first period but made 57.1 percent of their shots after halftime.
