GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Savannah State softball team opened the 2013 University of Florida Tournament with two losses The Lady Tigers fell to Charleston Southern in the opening game, 11-19. In the nightcap SSU fell to Florida, 0-12, in five innings.
The Lady Tigers fall to 3-3 on the season. They continue in the tournament with a rematch against Florida at 2:15 on Saturday. SSU is scheduled to play the University of North Carolina Wilmington in the second game on Saturday.
Hit Parade
Charleston Southern and SSU combined for 29 hits in Game #3 of the Tournament. The Lady Tigers blasted 11 hits, while the Lady Buccaneers hit 18.
Savannah State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning against Charleston Southern.

Torrian Wright later stole home to give the Lady Tigers a 3-0 lead after one complete inning.
Charleston Southern answered in the top of the second with five runs behind a couple costly errors from the Lady Tigers. The Lady Buccaneer's tacked on five more runs to take a 10-3 lead into the bottom of the third.
The Lady Tigers added one run in the third. Hallman was platted on an RBI single from
India Morgan. Charleston Southern tacked on two more runs in the fourth for a 12-4 lead.
SSU answered in the bottom of the fourth, cutting into the Lady Buccaneers lead with a four run inning.
Antonette Smith singled to reach and was scored on a throwing error. Wright doubled down the left field line, scoring
Ariona Hagood, who was pinch running for Uhrman and
Michaela Patton who reached on a single.
Morgan later scored Wright on a single through the left side to cut Charleston Southern's lead to 12-8. The Lady Buccaneers added two more runs in the top of the fifth, and sealed up the win with five runs in the top of the sixth, behind seven big hits.
McDowell was tagged with the loss for the Lady Tigers after pitching 4.0 innings, and allowing 12 runs (six earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts and five walks.
Cassie Standard pitched two innings for SSU. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits. Morgan led SSU at the plate, going 3-for-3.
Hayes Holdsworth garnered the pitching win for Charleston Southern with three innings of work. She allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits.
Out Gunned
The Lady Tigers went into the nightcap against #5 Florida with their best weapon on the mound, but it wasn't enough to stop the Gators bats. Preseason Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and SSU senior,
Madison Hedderly pitched four innings against the Gators, allowing 12 runs (8 earned) on 8 hits with one strikeout, and three walks.
Florida racked up six hits, scoring seven runs in the second inning to take a 9-0 lead over the Lady Tigers. SSU managed only one hit against the Gators. In the top of the fifth,
Tiffany Taylor singled to center field.
The Gators tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third for the final score, ending the game early due to mercy rule. Florida spread eight hits out over the five innings.
Alyssa Bache garnered the pitching win for Florida after 5.0 innings of work. She allowed one hit and struck out five.
