Tigers Knock off NCCU 44-36

Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.- Jeremy Ingram scored a game-high 15 points but it would not be enough as Savannah State defeated North Carolina Central 44-36 in Tiger Arena.
 
NCCU, who was previously unbeaten in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, went the final 4:15 without a field goal.
 
The Tigers led by 15 with just over 14 minutes remaining but Central strung together a 14-3 run to get within 38-34 with 4:15 on the clock, after a layup by Ingram.
 
Savannah State out-scored NCCU 6-2 the rest of the way.
 
Up 40-36 with 2:05 left, SSU iced the game with a 3-pointer by Devin Williams to go ahead by seven. The final points came on a free throw by Rashad Hassan with 39 seconds left.
 
Williams was the only SSU player in double figures with 12 points. Hassan added 11 rebounds and nine points.
 
SSU shot 47.6 percent from the floor in the opening period and 40 percent for the game. The Tigers 915-10, 9-2) out-rebounded NCCU 31 to 26.
 
Savannah State got a big boost from the bench which out-dueld the Eagle reserves 29-2.
 
SSU jumped out to a 10-4 lead but Central clawed back into the game with a 8-2 spurt.
 
That would be as close as NCCU (17-8, 10-1) would get in the opening half as SSU took a 24-16 advantage into the break.
