JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Savannah State 4x100 meter relay team of Darius Baker,
Chazwyn Price,
Cameron Hall and
Gregory Terrell qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship at the East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Florida, Saturday.
The Tigers finished 11th with a time of 40.05, and are set to compete for the 4x100 National Title on Wednesday June 6, at 5:30 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
Joining the men in Des Moines is Savannah State senior
Amara Jones, who qualified for the semi-finals of the 400m dash Friday after an 11th place finish and a time of 52.70.
Jones also qualified for the quarter-final heat of the 200m dash. Jones finished 22nd with a time of 23.89 Saturday, just shy of qualifying for the semi-final.
Saturday evening, the Savannah State women's team of
Aleah Hordges,
Jazy Seay-Blane,
Chavonta Roberts and Jones, finished 16th in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:37.97.
This is the first 4x100m men's relay team in school history to qualify for the Division I NCAA National Championship and this is the second appearance Jones has made in the 400m Division I National Championship.
