ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – The Savannah State softball team downed North Carolina A&T 7-4 in Game 10 (SSU's third game) of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Softball Championship (MEAC) Saturday in Ormond Beach, Florida to avoid elimination and continue in the tournament.
The Lady Tigers racked up three runs in the top of the first inning.
Shamyra Adams tripled to left field and was scored on a single from MEAC Rookie of the Year
Amber Hallman.
Madison Hedderly hit her sixth (second in the tournament) home run, scoring Hallman for a 3-0 Lady Tigers lead.
In the top of the fourth,
India Morgan scored
Ariona Hagood on a single to center. Hagood was pinch running for
Tiffany Davies who reached on a throwing error.
The Lady Aggies added a run in the bottom of the fourth. Sabrina Edmonds blasted her 11
th homer over the left center wall. Savannah State added a run in the fifth behind a single from
Katherine Stewart that scored Hallman.
North Carolina A&T answered in the bottom of the same inning. Hope Fletcher scored on a throwing error after reaching on a single.
Later in the fifth, the Lady Aggies threatened to tie the game up after loading the bases behind three hits. Fletcher scored a run on a throwing error to cut SSU's lead to 3 runs at 5-2.
With two runners on and the go-ahead run at the plate, North Carolina A&T's Juanita Jernigan saw a pitch she liked and sent it high to the left field only to be robbed of a 3-run homer by Savannah State left fielder

The score remained 5-2 into the seventh inning. Hallman blasted a solo home run, her seventh of the season for a 6-2 SSU Lead. Later, Davies singled to left field, platting Stewart who reached on a single for a Savannah State's seventh run.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lady Aggies added two final runs. Fletcher homered to left field, and Edmonds reached on an error that scored Tranea Jones for a 7-4 score. Later, a flyout from Detavia Kenan cut the Lady Aggies rally short and ended the game.
The Lady Aggies concluded their season with a 16-35 overall record, while Savannah State improved to 26-23 overall.
Hedderly picked up her 18th pitching win of the season after seven innings in the circle. She allowed four runs (two earned) on 13 hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Ashira Dobison was tagged with the loss after a complete game. She allowed seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Hallman led the Lady Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and a home run. Stewart was 2-for-4 with a RBI.
