RALEIGH, N.C. – The Savannah State softball team downed North Carolina Central in both games of a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader, 16-2 and 5-0, Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina to finish a three game series sweep, after posting a 7-3 win in Friday's game.
The Lady Tigers improve to 16-19 overall and 5-1 in the MEAC. North Carolina Central falls to 3-36 and 0-7 in the conference.
In the opening game of Saturday's twinbill, the Lady Tigers put up 9 runs in the sixth inning to end the game earlier after the Lady Eagles went scoreless in their last at bat in the bottom of the sixth.
Savannah State put up three runs on a four costly fielding errors from the Lady Eagles in the top of the first. In the second inning the Lady Tigers extended their lead to 5-0.
Megan Uhrman platted
Jessica Weimerskirk who reached on a single. Jami Paolini hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Uhrman.
North Carolina Central answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. Kayla McPeek doubled and advanced to third. Joy Simpson reached on a fielder's choice-bunt and then scored on a throwing error that also saw McPeek run in. It was the Lady Tigers only error of the game.
Savannah State extended their lead in the next at bat, adding 2 more runs in the fourth for a 7-2 lead before the game-ending, 9-run, sixth inning. The Lady Tigers out-hit the Lady Eagles 14-5.
Tiffany Davies picked up her third pitching win of the season after a full six innings in the circle. She allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits with 1 strikeout and no walks. Aurora Baker was tagged with the loss, giving up 16 runs (8 earned) on 14 hits with 1 strikeout and 4 walks.

Madison Hedderly picked up her 12
th pitching win of the season and third shutout after a full 7 innings in the circle and a 5-0 Lady Tiger win. She allowed no earned runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Savannah State again struck early, putting up two runs in the top half of the opening inning.
India Morgan scored on an error after reaching on a single.
Amber Hallman scored after a 2-6 force out of
Chelsea Parrish at second base.
The Lady Tigers held the 2-0 lead through the fifth as both teams went scoreless in the middle three innings. Hallman blasted a ground-rule double, platting Morgan and Weimerskirk who both reached on singles. In the top of the sixth,
Katherine Stewart scored on a throwing error for the final run after reaching on a single to left.
The Lady Tigers out-hit the Lady Eagles 10-4 in the contest. Bianka Molina was tagged with the pitching loss after a full 7 innings of work. She allowed 5 runs (2 earned) on 10 hits with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Savannah State returns home this week for a three game MEAC series with North Carolina A&T beginning Saturday April 14 with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
