Savannah State Opens MEAC Golf Showcase

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State men's and women's golf teams opened the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Showcase Monday, April 16 at the Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Georgia.

The Savannah State men's team leads with a team score of 592 (297-295) after two rounds of action. Bethune-Cookman finished the day in second with a team score of 609 (306-303).
Florida A&M are third with a team score of 617 (315-302), while North Carolina Central are fourth with a score of 630 (309-321). Maryland Eastern Shore holds at five with a 652 (329-323) and Hampton University rounds out the group with a two round total of 673 (338-335).

In individual scoring, Savannah State's Ryan Lassiter leads the pack with a two-round total of 143 (73-70) followed by teammate Cedomir llic with a 145 (73-72).

Matthew McKnight of Bethune-Cookman is third with 146 (72-74), followed by teammate Jamichael Jones with a 148 (74-74). Savannah State's Travis Roe rounds out the top five with a two-round total of 150 (73-77).

On the women's side, Bethune-Cookman leads the pack after one round with a team score of 315. Hampton University is second with a score of 321. The Savannah State Lady Tigers are third with a team score of 368.

Bethune-Cookman's Estefania Acosta leads the individual field with 76 (40-36). Hampton's Kayla Williams and Bethune Cookman's Andrea Orozco are tied for second with a score of 79.

In fourth place Bethune-Cookman's Patrizia Trevisan, Jennifer Hide, and Hampton's Nicole West and Maria Stewart are in a four-way tie, finishing the day with 80.

Savannah State's Candace Lewis finished in eighth with an 81. Hampton's Iman Ellis and Bethune-Cookman's Marie Bergelin are tied for ninth with an 82.

Lady Tiger's Michelle Gifford placed 11th with a 92, followed by teammate Jocelyn Williams with a 95 and Ebony Day in 13th with a 100.

The tournament will conclude with the final rounds Tuesday and a trophy presentation to follow.
