SSU Finishes Strong in the UNF Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Savannah State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams finished out the second and final day of competition in the University of North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida after inclement weather delayed the start and eventually cancelled some events later in the day.
 
In women's field events, Amber Hughes finished 2nd place in the triple jump with a distance of 12.24m. Kimberly Wilson snagged 7th with a distance of 11.79m. Chantia Taylor grabbed 11th with a distance of 11.13m, and Rajeanne Jarrett placed 16th with a distance of 10.78m
 
Alisha Nelson finished 10th in the women's high jump with a distance of 1.62m.
 
Lady Tiger Jazy Seay-Blane grabbed 4th place in the women's 400m dash with a time of 55.42, followed by Hughes who finished 5th with a time of 55.45. Chavonta Roberts placed 11th with a time of 57.02.
 
The relay team of Asia Stinson, Amara Jones, Aleah Hordges and Roberts placed 4th in the 4X100m relay with a time of 46.81.
 
In the opening day of events, Friday, Hughes finished 23rd in the long jump with a distance of 5.43m, while teammate Rajeanne Jarrett finished 25th with a 5.39m. Kimberly Wilson and Chantia Taylor finished 28th and 30th respectively, while Jaymi White finished 34th.
 
For the women, the 100m, 400m hurdles, 200m and 4X400m were cancelled due to inclement weather.
 
For the Savannah State men, the relay team of Eric Plump, Chazwyn Prince, Darrius Baker and Cameron Hall finished 3rd in the 4x100m relay with a time of 41.20.
 
Hall placed 4th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.52 after qualifying Friday with a time of 14.57 and a 5th place start.  Felton Chinn finished 7th with a time of 14.85 after qualifying Friday with a time of 14.99 and a 10th place start.
 
In the 800m run, Etchien Assinzo placed 8th with a time of 1:54.75. Freshman teammate, Marquis Mayfield placed 30th with a time of 1:59.66.
 
Kristopher Ballou finished 34th in the 1500m Run with a time of 4:13.01.
 
In Friday's events, Isreal-McBee Ruben took fourth place in the Men's 5000 Meter Run with a time of 15:16.76. Justin Taylor finished 9th in the Long Jump with a distance of 6.65m.
 
For the men the 400m, 100m, 400m hurdles, 200m and 4X400m events were cancelled due to weather.
