Savannah, Ga. – The Savannah State University basketball squads will host a non-conference doubleheader February 6
th at Tiger Arena. The women will take on Longwood University at 6 p.m., while the men face-off with Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 8 p.m.
The doubleheader will be the last non-conference games for both teams as the Tigers wind down their basketball season and prepare for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament March 5-10.
After back-to-back losses, the Lady Tigers look to rebound against the Longwood Lancers. Sophomore guard
Ezinne Kalu leads the Lady Tigers as the top scorer with an average of 18 points a game. Sophomore
Jasmine Kirkland is second in points with 180 total, averaging 8.6 a game.
SSU and head coach
Cedric Baker are 5-8 against the Lancers. However, they hold a 3-2 home record over the visitors from Virginia. The Lancers beat Savannah State 47-37 in the last matchup of the teams in the 2010-2011 season.
The SSU men are currently ranked 2
nd in the MEAC with a 7-2 conference record and a 13-10 overall record. The Tigers beat South Carolina State 73-60 Saturday in Orangeburg, S.C.
