SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Savannah State University Lady Tigers finished play in the USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. Saturday, winning the opening game against La Salle University, 4-2, and dropping the second game to USC Upstate 5-0.
In the opening game, Savannah State scored four runs in the first inning.
Shamyra Adams led-off with a double to left field. She was plated by
Megan Uhrman who also doubled to left field. Uhrman later scored on a single from Megan Hedderly.
Amber Hallman blasted a 2-run homerun over the left field wall for a 4-0 Lady Tiger lead.
Junior
Madison Hedderly held the La Salle Lady Explorers hitless in the first three innings. In the sixth Linnette Siedler scored on a throwing error after reaching on wild pitch. La Salle added one more run in the seventh as Tristan Musho doubled to centerfield and Breanna DiTommaso, pinch running for Musho, scored on a groundout from Kati Cooper.
Hedderly was tagged with the pitching win after a complete game on the bump, with 11 strikeouts, allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits and no walks. Alyssa Bitsimis was the losing pitcher after one inning of work, she allowed four runs, all earned, on four hits with no strikeouts or walks.
In the second game, the Lady Tigers were unable to score as the USC Upstate Lady Spartans spread out 5 runs over six innings for the shutout.
Adams and Hallman both singled for the only two hits Savannah State had in the game. Lacey Dinney was tagged with the pitching win after a complete game in the circle. She allowed no runs on two hits with 12 strikeouts.
Tiffany Davies pitched six innings, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned on 6 hits with 1 strikeout and 1 walk.
The Lady Tigers return home for a doubleheader with Mercer University, Tuesday, February 28 at the new Tiger Softball Field.
