GAINESVILLE, Fla.- Patric Young scored 13 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked six shots to lead 7th ranked Florida to a 58-40 win over Savannah State (3-3) in a game played at the O'Connell Center, before a crowd of 7,323.
The Gators, who led from start to finish, held a commanding 24-4 lead with 3:36 left in the first period.
However, a layup by Cedric Smith started a 10-4 run to give SSU some momentum as they entered the half down 28-14.
A jumper by Rashad Hassan got the Tigers within 12 to start the second half but Florida (4-0) answered with a 15-2 run to grab a 43-18 lead with 12:19 remaining.
The Gators lead would grow to 55-29 with 3:36 left after a layup by Braxton Ogbueze.
Savannah State held UF without a field goal the rest of the way as they finished the contest with a 11-3 run.
Hassan and Smith scored 11 points each for SSU while Arnold Louis came off the bench to grab 11 rebounds to go with his nine points. Hassan added eight rebounds for the Tigers while Smith had six.
After shooting 6-for-25 from the field in the first half, SSU shot 47.6 percent from the floor in the second period.
Florida shot 35.4 percent from the field for the game and out-rebounded SSU 37 to 35.
The Gators went18 for 28 from the free throw line while Savannah State went 6 for 10.
