SSU Lady Tigers claim second MEAC win

Savannah, Ga. – The Savannah State University Lady Tigers survived a late rally from South Carolina State at Tiger Arena to claim a 76-65 victory, and their second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win.

With six minutes left in the game, Savannah State held a 10-point lead at 61-51, but the Lady Bulldogs closed the gap with a 9-1 run to get within three points of Savannah State's lead.
The Lady Tigers answered with their own 6-0 run, and held the Lady Bulldogs to no points in the last 2 minutes of the game to seal up the win.

The Lady Tigers shot a 56 percent clip from the floor. It's the first time in the season the team has shot over 50 percent in a game.

Early in the game, the Lady Bulldogs pushed out to a 10-point lead as Trinese Fox sank a layup to make it 14-4 with 13:50 on the clock.

In the last three minutes of the first half, the Lady Tigers pushed out to a 3-point lead behind a 7-2 run as Zadous Pollard nailed a three, and Blessing Uba and Rikiah Galin added a basket each. Savannah State led South Carolina State 25-22 at the half.

With 13:52 showing in the second half, the Lady Tigers jumped out to their biggest lead of the game yet as Ezinne Kalu sank a layup on a breakaway to make it 45-30.

The win was also the first time more than four players for the Lady Tigers scored in the double digits. Kalu led the team with 23 points, Jasmine Kirkland followed with 16, while Jasmine Norman, Pollard and Rikiah Gatlin all recorded 10 apiece. Gatlin led the team with 7 rebounds, a career best in points and rebounds.
