DAYTONA, BEACH, Fla.- Bethune-Cookman only made one field goal in overtime but the Wildcats made 7 of 8 free throw attempts in a 58-54 win over Savannah State at Moore Gymnasium.
A pair of free throws by Cookman's Demetria Frank gave the Wildcats a 49-47 lead with 1:17 left in the second half but a jumper by
Jasmine Kirkland with 52 seconds remaining tied the game. Ezzine Kalu missed a jumper with fours econds left and a 3-pointer at the buzzer which would of gave SSU the win.
Jasmine Norman and Kalu made field goals for SSU in the overtime period while Cookman received two free throws each from Jalisa Issac, Jasmine Elum and Sharnese Neal.
Norman had 18 points and 6 rebounds for Savannah State (6-11, 1-5) while Kalu had 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Kirkland chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds in a losing effort.
Cookman led 16-6 in the first period before SSU rallied to trim their halftime deficit to 23-21.
Layups by Norman, Rikiah Gatling and Kalu to start the second half gave the Lady Tigers a 27-23 lead but Cookman answered with baskets by Kayla Crawford and Elum to tie the game at 27 with 16:04 left.
The Wildcats led 42-37 with 7:40 remaining before SSU tied the game at 45 after a jumper by Norman with 2:59 on the clock.
Cookman (5-12, 2-3) was led by Frank who had 14 points.
The Wildcats shot 37.8 percent from the floor for the game.
SSU shot 41.5 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Wildcats 37 to 28.
