TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Savannah State rallied from a 10-point deficit but came up short in a 55-50 loss to Florida A&M at the Al Lawson Center.
SSU trailed 41-31 with 8:31 left in the contest before stringing together a 12-2 run to tie the game at 43 after a
Zadous Pollard 3-pointer with 5:26 remaining.
The Lady Tigers took a 49-48 lead after a
Ezinne Kalu 3-pointer with 3:22 left but FAMU out-scored Savannah State 7-1 down the stretch.
The loss drops SSU to 6-10 overall and 1-4 in the MEAC while the Rattlers improve to 11-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
Kalu scored 14 of her game-high 25 points in the second period to lead SSU. Kalu made 10 of 12 free throws and also had eight rebounds and four steals.
Alisha Nelson had 12 rebounds for the Lady Tigers.
The first half was tight but seven unanswered points by FAMU gave the Rattlers a 16-7 advantage with 7:18 left.
SSU was able to get within 17-15 with just over two minutes on the clock but a jumper by Jasmine Grice and a 3-pointer by Tameka McKelton gave FAMU a 22-15 edge with 1:20 remaining.
FAMU led 24-17 at the half.
The Rattlers expanded their lead to 10 points early in the second half before SSU made a late rally with under nine minutes left.
Grice had 13 points for FAMU as did Antonia Bennett who also added 13 rebounds.
SSU won the rebounding battle 46 to 41 but shot 26.2 percent from the field.
The Lady Tigers missed all six 3-point attempts in the first half but made five of six attempts in the second period.
