HILTON HEAD, S.C.—Savannah State University's Tennis team shut out Tennessee State University 7-0 during the annual Spring Fest Tennis Tournament in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Lady Tigers captured the team doubles point as Sandra Kirstjansdottir partnered with
Lauren Daniels won 8-0 over Krystan Mason and Shardel Superb.
Chandel McDonie and
Shannon Howard teamed to defeat Lezlie Knight and Khadijah Williams 8-5.
Davita Washington and
Troyana Williams got the final doubles point with an 8-4 victory over Kwetma Mensah and Brittany Dawson.
The Lady Tigers won all six singles matches. Kristjansdottir breezed in a straight set with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Krystan Mason, while McDonie defeated Shardel Superb 6-0, 6-3.
Tennessee State fought back as the final four singles matches went into a tie breaker decision. SSU's Daniels knocked off Williams 2-6, 7-5, 11-9, and Howard won a 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Knight.
Davita Washington dropped her first set 4-6 to Kwetma Mensah , but seized the last two 6-4, 10-3.
Troyana Williams secured the final point for SSU with a 7-6, 4-7, 6-2 win over Brittany Dawson.
SSU's tennis team will play their next match against George Mason on March, 14 in Hilton Head, S.C. at the Vander/Meer Racquet Club located at 116 Shipyard Drive.
