Hassan, Louis Lead SSU In Loss To North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Rashad Hassan scored 17 points and Arnold Louis had 12 rebounds but it would not be enough as Savannah State (0-2) fell to North Florida 62-57 in the UNF Arena before a crowd of 1,484.

The contest was tied at 21 at the half but North Florida shot 70 percent from the floor in the second half to improve to 1-1.

SSU trailed 27-25 but the Tigers' Deric Rudolph was fouled by Charles McRoy on a 3-point attempt with 15:31 left. Rudolph made all three free throw attempts to jump-start a 10-0 run by Savannah State as they took a 35-27 edge with 13:46 on the clock.

The Tigers led 50-44 with 6:36 remaining but UNF tied the game at 51 and went ahead 56-51 with 2:16 left as part of a 12-1 run.

A free throw by Stephen Wilson and a layup by Joshua Montgomery pulled SSU to within 56-54 with 2:07 left but the Tigers could get no closer.

Rudolph added 12 points for Savannah State.

Andy Diaz led the Ospreys with 16 points.

SSU out-rebounded North Florida 38 to 27 but the Tigers made 23 turnovers.

The Ospreys led by as many as seven points in the opening period before SSU rallied back to take a 15-12 lead with 10 unanswered points with 6:30 on the clock.

SSU led by four points with 2:50 left.

With the game tied at 18, Rudolph hit a 3-pointer with six seconds left but UNF's Jimmy Williams nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 21.

Both teams shot poorly in the opening 20 minutes with North Florida shooting 29.2 percent and SSU shooting 26.9 percent.
