Savannah State Wins In Overtime

CLINTON, S.C.- Courtney Long made a layup with one second left to give Savannah State (9-8) and 52-50 overtime victory over Presbyterian.

SSU led 42-36 with 5:31 left in the second half but the Blue Hose out-scored Savannah State 9-3 the rest of the contest to send the game into overtime.

In the extra period, the Lady Tigers led 50-47 but Presbyterian's Kristen Stevens tied the game with a 3-pointer with 26 seconds left.

Ezinne Kalu had 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals for SSU. Long added nine points and six rebounds while Brittany Cade chipped in nine points and seven rebounds. Alisha Nelson contributed eight rebounds, four points and three blocks.

SSU led 10-4 early in the game but Presbyterian took a 15-12 lead with 5:48 left.

Down 22-19, Kalu drained a jumper with one second left to send the Lady Tigers into the half trailing 22-21.

Savannah State led 29-24 with 17:34 left in the contest and increased their advantage to 36-29 with 13:19 on the clock after scoring seven unanswered points.

The game featured 10 lead changes and eight ties.

Mariah Pietrowski had 14 points to lead PC (4-10).

Both teams had 41 rebounds.
