DURHAM, N.C.- Savannah State split a double-header with North Carolina Central, losing the opener 6-3 but bouncing back to win the second game 5-4.
In the first game,
Madison Hedderly led off the second inning with a triple and came home on
Brittney Lollis' single for a 1-0 lead.
NCCU tied the game in the bottom of the inning and added another run in the third and four more in the fourth for a 6-1 lead.
Savannah State managed two runs off four hits in the seventh as Jeniffer Katzman and
Tiffany Taylor had RBI singles to make the score 6-3.
Hedderly had three hits and Lollis had two for SSU. Hedderly took the loss, giving up 11 hits and six runs.
Desanbra Franklin drove in three runs for NCCU and Kayla McPeek earned the win.
In the second game, SSU won in the seventh inning as
Shamyra Adams singled and scored on a single by Taylor to go ahead 5-4. The Eagles went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning as SSU took the victory.
NCCU scored two in the first inning and went ahead 4-0 in the bottom of the third.
Savannah State answered with four runs off four hits in the top of the fourth.
Taylor reached on an error and scored on a single by Hedderly. Lollis reached on a fielder's choice and
Brittany Wilson's single scored Hedderly. After
Jessica Weimerskirk grounded out,
Amber Wright hit a two run single that scored Lollis and Wilson to tie the game.
Adams had two hits and Wright had two RBI's for the Lady Tigers.
Cassie Standard took home the win, scattering five hits in seven innings.
Franklin had two hits and two RBIs for NCCU and Aurora Baker took the loss.
Savannah State's record is 15-15-1 while NCCU is 7-29.
