Lady Tigers Sweep Findlay

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Madison Hedderly picked up a pair of wins on the mound as Savannah State swept Findlay in a double-header played at the Paulson Complex.

SSU won the opener 5-4 and completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.

Hedderly pitched all eight innings in the first game and struck out six batters. Hedderly pitched four innings of relief in the second game and only gave up one hit.

In the first game, Shamyra Adams singled to left field and came home on a ground-out by Tiffany Taylor for a 1-0 lead.

Findlay scored twice in the second and twice in the top of the third for a 4-1 lead. SSU answered with three runs in the bottom of the third as Taylor drove in another run and Brittney Lollis hit a two run single to tie the score.

The score remained tie until the bottom of the eighth when SSU loaded the bases and Brittany Wilson singled home Jennifer Katzman who started the inning on second base.

Taylor and Lollis had two RBI each and Katzman scored twice. Hedderly added a pair of hits.

Lauren Mathias hit a home run for Findlay and Lauren Orban took the loss on the mound after pitching 7.1 innings and giving up nine hits and five runs.

In game two, Findlay scored twice in the second inning but Savannah State plated three runners in the fourth and added three more in the sixth.

In the fourth frame, Wilson hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Mariah Tutt, who was pinch running for Hedderly , who reached on an error. Jessica Weimerskirk doubled and came home on a double by Shannon Reno and Reno scored on a single by Adams.

In the sixth, Adams had a RBI single and Taylor drove in a pair of runs with her single to right center.

Adams and Weimerskirk each had three hits while Adams and Taylor had two RBI each. Weimerskirk and Reno both scored twice.

SSU improved to 5-10.
