Presbyterian Takes Two From SSU

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State fell to 3-8 after dropping a double-header to Presbyterian at the Paulson Complex.

SSU fell 11-3 and 9-0 to the Blue Hose.

In game one, Shamyra Adams walked and scored on an error to give Savannah State a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Presbyterian tied the game in the top of the second and went ahead 7-1 with six runs off four hits in the third inning.

The Blue Hose increased their lead to 11-1 with four runs in the top of the fourth.

Savannah State scored twice in the bottom of the fourth when Tiffany Taylor and Crystal Williams scored runs. Taylor singled and came on on a single by Brittany Wilson. Williams was a pinch runner for Madison Hedderly who walked and scored on a error by the catcher.

Taylor, Wilson and Jessica Weimerskirk all had hits for SSU. Hedderly pitched five innings and gave up 11 runs and eight hits despite recording six strikeouts.

Stephanie Payne hit a three run homer for the Blue Hose while Brittany Howell struck out five to earn the win.

In the night cap, Presbyterian (4-0) scored three times in the second, once in the fifth and five times in the sixth to put SSU away.

Weimerskirk, Taylor, Hedderly and Jennifer Katzman all hit singles for the Lady Tigers. Cassie Standard struck out four but surrendered nine hits, nine runs and four walks in a losing effort.

Howell won game two while striking out nine batters in five innings. Leslie Hensley and Rachel Parker both hit home runs for PC.
