SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State fell to 3-5 on the young season after losing a double-header to cross-town foe Armstrong Atlantic State at the AASU Softball Field.
AASU won the opener 7-2 and completed the sweep with a 9-1 win in the second game.
In game one, the Pirates scored single runs in the se4cond, third and fourth innings for a 3-0 lead.
Savannah State scored in the top of the fifth when
Jennifer Katzman tripled home
Tiffany Taylor. AASU added four runs in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 7-1.
In the top of the seventh,
Brittany Wilson hit a triple and came home on a single by
Madison Hedderly.
Cassie Standard took the loss on the mound for the Lady Tigers, giving up nine hits and seven runs.
Erin Billingsley drove in four runs for AASU (4-2) and Shebly Duff struck out eight batters and hit a home run.
In the second game, Armstrong scored four times in the first inning and added two more in the second for a 6-0 lead.
AASU scored twice in the fourth inning for a 8-0 advantage.
Savannah State scored their lone run in the top of the fifth when
Brittney Lollis singled home
Jessica Weimerskirk, who earlier singled.
Lollis had two singles for SSU and Hedderly took the loss as she gave up nine hits, nine runs and three walks.
Nicole Huddleston hit two home runs and had five RBIs for AASU. Megan Barnwell struck out eight batters to earn the win.
