Lady Tigers Fall To FVSU In Extra Innings

SAVANNAH, Ga.- It took nine innings but Fort Valley State defeated Savannah State 11-10 in the 2010 SSU Softball Tournament played at the Paulson Complex.

In the top of the ninth, Tameria Brown scored the winning run when Ronkeya Garner reached on an error by the SSU third baseman. In SSU's turn at the plate, Tiffany Taylor singled but Brittney Wilson hit into a double play. Madison Hedderly flied out to end the inning.

Garner got the win on the mound, giving up 13 hits and 10 runs while striking out five.

Hedderly took the loss for SSU surrendering 14 hits, 11 runs, four walks while striking out four.

Both teams scored four times in the first inning but Savannah State went ahead 7-4 with three runs in the third.

FVSU scored once in the fourth while the Lady Tigers were able to add two runs to push their lead to 9-5.
The Wildcats scored one in the sixth and three times in the seventh to tie the game at nine.

Both teams added runs in the eighth but only FVSU was able to score in the ninth.

Shamyra Adams and Brittney Lollis had three hits each for Savannah State (3-3). Taylor and Katzman had two hits apiece while Loillis, Hedderly and Jennifer Katzman each drove in two runs. Lollis scored three times and Adams, Taylor and Hedderly scored two times each.

Lollis and Hedderly each hit home runs for SSU in the first inning with Lollis hitting a two run shot and Hedderly adding a solo blast.

Brittney Brown had four hits and three RBI for the Wildcats (4-1).
