SAVANNAH, Ga.-
Cassie Standard hurled a one hitter and struck out six batters to lead Savannah State to a 12-2 win over Clark Atlanta in the 2010 SSU Softball Tournament played at the Paulson Complex.
Standard also hit a three run triple in the third for the Lady Tigers (3-2).
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but SSU answered with a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning.
Shamyra Adams led off with a walk and later stole home,
Alexis Carson singled and later scored on a ground out by
Brittney Lollis.
Tiffany Taylor and
Brittany Wilson hit back to back singles and Taylor scored on a error by the left fielder for a 3-0 advantage.
Standard led off the second with a walk and later scored on an error by the pitcher for a 4-1 lead.
CAU scored a run in the top of the third to cut the Lady Tigers lead in half but Savannah State answered with four runs in the bottom of the third as Standard hit a three run triple and later scored to make the score 8-2.
Madison Hedderly led off the fifth with a single,
Jessica Weimerskirk walked and
Jennifer Katzman reached on a fielder's choice. After Standard flied out and Adams drew a walk, Carson tripled to left center to drive home Weimerskirk, Katzman and Adams. Carson came home on an error by the shortstop for a 12-2 lead.
Carson had four RBI, two hits and scored twice while Standard drove in three runs and scored twice. Adams, Weimerskirk and Katzman all scored two runs each.
LaKeisha Pruitt had CAU's lone hit. Ashley Brooks took the loss, giving up 12 runs, six hits and four walks.
CAU, who made eight errors, fell to 0-2.
