SSU Rallies Past Wildcats

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State scored four runs in the sixth in a 5-4 come from behind win over Fort Valley State in the 2010 SSU Softball Classic played at the Paulson Complex.

FVSU scored three runs off two hits in the second inning for the early lead.

The Wildcats went ahead 4-0 after scoring an unearned run in the fourth.

Savannah State scored their first run in the fifth. Brittney Wilson led off with a single. Mariah Tutt pinch ran for Wilson and later scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Jennifer Katzman.

SSU (1-2) exploded for four runs off two hits in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Shamyra Adams doubled and Alexis Carson reached on a fielder's choice. An error by the Wildcat third baseman allowed Adams to score a run. After Brittney Lollis reached on an error, Tiffany Taylor hit a double which drove home Carson and Lollis. Wilson flied out but the ball was deep enough to allow Taylor to tag and score the game winner.

Taylor had two RBI for SSU, who won their first game of the season.

Maddison Hedderly pitched seven innings and seven hits, four runs and struck out two.

B. Brown and J. McDaniel had two hits for FVSU. McDaniel had two RBI and Anjah Usher scored twice for the Wildcats (0-1). R. Garner took the loss on the mound despite getting five strikeouts.
