SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State lost their first home game of the season with a 52-48 loss from Florida A&M.
The Lady Tigers fell to 5-7 while FAMU improved to 4-5.
The Rattlers won the contest despite not making a field goal the final 6:40.
Savannah State had trouble at the free throw line.
SSU missed both of their attempts in the first period and only made 5 of 11 shots in the second half.
FAMU led 4-3 early in the game but the Lady Tigers scored six unanswered points to go ahead 9-4 with 15:56 left.
The Rattlers led by three points with 8:56 on the clock but SSU battled back to take a 27-24 lead into the half.
After trading baskets to begin the second half, SSU led 29-28 . FAMU answered with a 17-5 run to go ahead 45-34 with 11:01 remaining.
Savannah State responded to the Rattlers run with nine straight points to make it a 45-43 contest with 8:48 on the clock.
Jumpers by Tameka McKelton put the Rattlers back in from by six but Savannah State rallied to close their gap to 49-48 with five unanswered points with 1:23 left.
SSU would not score again as the Rattlers made 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch.
Savannah State had four players in double figures.
Ezinne Kalu had 12 points while
Courtney Long added 11 points and six rebounds.
Darice Fountaine and
Brittany Cade each chipped in 10 points.
FAMU, who out-rebounded Savannah State 48 to 34, was led by Antonio Bennett's game-high 18 points.
