CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Darice Foutaine scored a game-high 24 points but it would not be enough as Savannah State fell to 1-3 with a 79-41 setback from Charlotte.

The crowd of 1,005 at Halton Arena saw Fountaine hit 5 of 9 3-point attempts and make 5 of 6 free throw attempts.

Charlotte led 8-2 early in the contest. SSU cut their deficit to 8-5 after Ezinne Kalu made three free throws.

Savannah State sliced a 11 point deficit to 8 points on a 3-pointer by Fountaine but Charlotte closed the half with a 21-5 run to take a 39-15 lead into the locker room.

SSU only made 3 of 24 shots from the floor in the opening period while Charlotte made 18 of 22 free throws in the first half.

The 49ers led by 30 points early in the second half but a three-point play by Kalu pulled SSU within 49-22 with 16:48 remaining.

Charlotte answered with a 14-2 run to make the score 53-24 with 10:33 on the clock.

A 3-pointer by Fountaine cut the Savannah State deficit to 35 with 7:42 left.

Ten unanswered points during a 14-2 spurt pushed Charlotte's lead to 79-35 with 35 seconds left.

SSU finished the game with back to back 3-pointers by Fountaine.

Jeniffer Haley led Charlotte (3-1) with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Charlotte out-rebounded SSU 45 to 27.
