Tigers Set To Play Claflin On Jackie Robinson Day

SAVANNAH, Ga.- April 15th, 2009 will be the 62nd anniversary of the day that Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball's color barrier, when he took the field for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

To commemorate this historic event, Savannah State will play Claflin at 3:30 p.m. It will be the first time that two Historically Black schools have played each other on Fluor Field.

Savannah State is the oldest state-supported HBCU college in Georgia and Claflin is the oldest HBCU college in South Carolina.

The game will be the first of a double-header as the Greenville Drive will host the Hickory Crawdads at 7:00 p.m. in the second game, in minor league action.

The celebration of Jackie Robinson's life and achievements will continue throughout the Drive's game with a video tribute honoring the Hall of Famer, as well as several players wearing the number 42 jersey.
