SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State completed their three-game sweep of Miles on Sunday afternoon with an 8-2 victory over the Golden Bears at Tiger Field.
SSU ended the weekend outscoring Miles 49-4.
During Sunday's contest,
Noah Rodriguez hit a home run,
Tyler Tucker had three hits,
Johan Sandoval drove in three runs and
Gregorio Gonzalez struck out eight batters in seven innings.
In the bottom of the third inning,
Jason Ramos was hit by a pitch and
Jayden Clark hit a single to center field. Both runners advanced a base due to a wild pitch and both runners came home thanks to a double to left field by Sandoval for a 2-0 lead.
Clark drew a walk in the fifth inning and scored when Sandoval singled to left field as the Tigers extended their lead to 3-0.
Savannah State widen their margin to 6-0 by scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth.
Tucker hit a single,
Kijani Clarington drew a walk and
David Sanders reached base because of an error to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Tucker to score and a sacrifice fly by
Chandler Hicks to left field was deep enough to allow Clarington to come home. Sanders scored on a groundout by Ramos.
Hakem Smith was hit by a pitch in the seventh and was able to score when
Jan'i Belcher hit a single to left field for a 7-0 lead.
Miles, who was held hitless until the fifth inning, scored twice in the top of the eighth but Savannah State responded with a run in the bottom of the inning when Rodriguez hit a solo home run over the left field fence.
Tucker finished the game with a double and two singles while Sandoval had a double and a single and had three RBI and Clark scored twice.
Gonzalez issued four walks but only allowed one hit and no runs.
Yan Cartaya gave up two hits and two runs in his lone inning while
Bynton Edge pitched the final inning and only surrendered one hit.
Savannah State (16-14, 13-8 SIAC) will host USC Beaufort in a non-conference game on March 31 at 4 p.m.
