BPC Takes Pair From Lady Tigers

SAVANNAHG, Ga.- Brewton-Parker spoiled Youth Day by sweeping Savannah State 3-2 and 6-3 at the Paulson Softball Complex.

It was SSU's 11th straight loss.

In the first game, SSU led 1-0 in the third after Blaine Ford scored an unearned run. Brewton-Parked tied the game in the top of the fourth with a unearned run.

The game was forced into extra innings and in the top of the eighth, BPC scored two unearned runs.

Savannah State's Krystal Frost hit a RBI single that scored Brittney Lollis but could not get any more runs and lost by one.

SSU ended the game with three hits and three errors.

Crystal Williams hit two singles for SSU. Frost took the lost on the mound, giving up four hits, three runs while striking out four.

K. Leng had two hits for BPC and M C Roberts drove in two runs. E. Poythress earned the win and struck out six.

In game, two, L. Wooten and L. Pettyjohn each drove in two runs for the Barons. While K. Mattox went the distance on the mound and struck out five.

BPC led 1-0 but Savannah State's Wilson and Tiffany Taylor each hit RBI singles to put SSU ahead 2-1 after one inning of play.

Brewton-Parker scored once in the third and once in the fourth for a 3-2 advantage. BPU added two more in the top of the fifth to go ahead 5-2 but SSU closed their gap in the bottom of the inning when Jessica Weimerskirk tripled home Taylor.

The Barons had three hits in the seventh but could only score once to expand their lead to 6-3.

Rachel West struck out five batters in a losing effort while Shamyra Adams, Williams and Taylor each had two hits for SSU (14-26).
