MACON, Ga.- Savannah State opened their 2009 softball season with a double-header loss to Mercer at Sikes Field.

It was the season-opener for both teams.

Hits were hard to come by as the Bears held Savannah State (0-2) to just one hit on the afternoon, a single by Diamyn Woods in game one.

Mercer (2-0) won the first game 12-0 as Lacey Richardson had three hits and drove in three runs.

In game, two, a trio of Mercer pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter in the Bears 18-0 victory. Richardson had four hits, scored three runs and drove in two runs for the Bears.
