SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State split a double-header with Edward Waters and Clark Atlanta at the Paulsen Complex.
SSU lost to Edward Waters 15-5 but bounced back in the second game to post a 8-0 win over CAU.
The win over Clark Atlanta was SSU's first victory of the season.
Against NAIA Edward Waters, the visitors from Jacksonville, Florida scored eight times in the second inning as they jumped out to a 12-0 lead after four innings of play.
SSU struck back in the bottom of the fifth by scoring five runs.
Tiffany Taylor led off with a walk and advanced to second on a single by
Diamyn Woods.
Krystle Frost reached on a fielder's choice which was followed by a single from
Blaine Ford which allowed Woods to score. A single by
Brandi Ballard allowed Frost to score the Lady Tigers second run.
Shamyra Adams reached on an error but two more SSU players crossed the plate. Jessica Weimerkirk singled which brought home Adams and the score was EWC 15, SSU 5.
EWC scored three times off two hits in the top of the sixth for the final runs of the contest.
SSU, which made seven errors, was led by Adams who had a pair of RBIs.
Rachel West took the loss despite striking out five batters.
Shayna Best, Simone Smith and Sherise Clopton all had three hits for Edward Waters.
In the Clark Atlanta game, Frost hurled a six-hitter and struck out six batters to get the win.
At the plate, Taylor went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Alexis Carson had two hits and Ford scored a pair of runs.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Tigers (1-5) scored five runs in the bottom of the second.
Frost led off with a walk and Ford reached on a fielder's choice. After Frost was thrown out at second, Carson singled which scored Ford. Adams singled and after a wild pitch allowed Carson to score, Weimerskirk drew a walk.
Brittney Lollis grounded out to third but it allowed Adams to cross the plate. Taylor hit a RBI single that scored Weimerskirk and Woods doubled to left field that scored Taylor.
Taylor hit a RBI triple in the fourth and Wilson grounded out which allowed another run to score to increase the SSU lead to 7-0.
The final run of the game happened in the fifth when CAU made two errors.
Ford reached on an error and stole second. Carson singled and also stole second. Adams reached on an error which allowed Ford to score the last run of the game.
Marcquetta Coles and LaKeisha Pruitt each had two hits for the Division II Panthers.
Ashley Brooks took the loss, giving up nine hits, seven earned runs and five walks.
