SAVANNAH, Ga.- Lashara Smith scored a game-high 18 points but it would not be enough as Georgia Tech rolled to a 89-34 win over Savannah State before a season-high crowd of 2,134 fans.

SSU fell to 5-18 with the loss while the Yellow Jackets improved to 18-6.

Savannah State led 4-3 after two free throws by Smith but the Yellow Jackets responded with 11 consecutive points to go ahead 14-4 with 15:18 on the clock.

After a basket by Milan Johnson to cut their deficit to eight, SSU went almost six minutes before their next field goal.

A 3-pointer by Ashlee Barley made the score 22-10 but Tech closed the half with a 21-9 run and went into the intermission leading 43-19.

The Yellow Jackets shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half while SSU shot 33.3 percent.

Savannah State did make 5-of-6 free throw attempts in the opening 20 minutes while Tech was 7-for-13.

Georgia Tech opened the second half with nine straight points for a 52-19 advantage.

SSU was held without a field goal for six minutes.

Down by 42 with just over 12 minutes left, the Lady Tigers scored six unanswered points to make the score 64-28 but Tech answered with a 14-0 run to push their lead to 50 points.

The Yellow Jackets, who shot 54.3 percent from the floor in the second half, ended the contest with a 11-3 surge.

Alex Montgomery led four Yellow Jackets in double figures with 15 points.

The Georgia Tech win evens the series with Savannah State tied at two games apiece.
SSU won during the 1974-75 and 1975-76 seasons while Tech won games during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.
