Baker Resigns As Savannah State Women's Basketball Head Coach

Savannah, Georgia — Savannah State University announces the resignation of Cedric Baker, head coach of the Lady Tigers women's basketball team, effective May 16, 2025.

Coach Baker concludes his 22nd season leading the SSU women's basketball program, leaving behind a legacy of growth and achievement. Over more than two decades, Baker compiled 262 career victories, making him the winningest coach in program history. He also holds the distinction of being the longest-serving women's basketball coach in Savannah State history.

Under his leadership, the Lady Tigers reached two NCAA Tournament appearances, earned two SIAC Divisional Championships, and Baker was honored with three Coach of the Year awards. His tenure spanned both NCAA Division I and Division II eras, where he consistently guided the program forward.

"I would like to thank Coach Baker for his contributions to our women's basketball program," said Opio Mashariki, SSU Director of Athletics. "His dedication to the university and our student-athletes has been exemplary. We are grateful for his service and wish him nothing but the best moving forward."

A national search for Savannah State's next head women's basketball coach will begin immediately.
