Lady Bucs Defeat Savannah State

CHARLESTON, S.C.- Charleston Southern opened the second half with a 12-5 run and went on to defeat Savannah State 66-51.

SSU (8-7) trailed 30-23 at the half but Crissa Jackson opened the second period with a 3-pointer to get the Lady Tigers within three.

Charleston Southern answered with a 3-pointer from Katie Tull but Jackson hit a jumper to make it a 33-28 game.

CSU reeled off nine unanswered points to take a 42-28 advantage with 15:05 on the clock.

Another 3-pointer by Jackson would pull SSU within 10 with less than two minutes left but the Buccaneers scored eight of the next nine points to go ahead 66-49 with 14 seconds remaining.

Courtney Long connected on a jumper for the last points of the contest with three seconds on the clock.

Jackson led all scorers with 17 points and six steals. Long had 15 points and three steals while Kym Stamps contributed 13 points. Alisha Nelson had 15 rebounds and six blocks.

The first half featured five ties.

With the score tied at 12, CSU scored the next seven points for a 19-17 lead with 11:59 left.

A jumper from Ashlee Bailey and a layup from Jackson would pull Savannah State within three but the Buccaneers scored the next five points for a 24-26 lead with just under eight minutes on the clock.

SSU would get as close as five but went into the half down by seven points.

Tull led CSU (5-4) with 15 points.
