TALLADEGA, Ala- Savannah State got off to a slow start but rebounded and held on to defeat NAIA opponent Talladega 62-59 in Callahan Gym.
The win broke a eight-game losing streak for the Lady Tigers as they improved to 4-17.
SSU led 27-26 at the half and built a nine point lead with 17:18 to go in the game.
Trailing 44-36, Talladega went on a 14-2 run to take a 50-46 lead with 8:15 left.
Savannah State answered with a 10-1 run that gave the visitors a 56-51 advantage with just over five minutes on the clock.
The Tornadoes rallied back to pull within one twice, with the last being with nine seconds left but a pair of free throws by
Courtney Long with seven seconds remaining sealed the win for SSU.
Morgan Bennett led Talladega (10-11) with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
In the first period, TC jumped out to score the first 11 points of the game.
Talladega led by as many as 12 points before SSU rallied back to tie the game at 22 with 5:18 left.
Savannah State shot 34.6 percent from the floor in the first half but improved to shot 48.3 percent in the second period.
SSU edged the Tornadoes in rebounding 35 to 34.
