SAVANNAH, Ga- Alfred Arnold pitched a complete game, giving up two earned runs while striking out six batters in a 13-3 win for Savannah State over Presbyterian.
While Arnold controlled the game from the mound, Brandon Javis, Brett Pointer and Matthew Nowacki did their share at the plate with three RBIs apiece.
The Tigers erupted for eight runs in the third inning to break open a scoreless game.
Glen Wormley led off with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by David Washington. Wormley went to third on Kyle Wilkerson's single and came home on a single by Santos Adames. Javis then hit a three-run home run to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
After Matt Oglesby walked, Pointer popped up for the second out. Andrew Mendez singled and Nowacki hit a single that drove in two runs for a 6-0 SSU advantage. Nowacki scored on a passed ball and Wilkerson singled home Wormley, who walked for the second time in the inning.
The Blue Hose scored three times in the top of the sixth but SSU answered with four runs off six hits in the bottom half of the sixth as Pointer, Nowacki and Wormley had RBI singles.
Presbyterian (11-26) had the bases loaded in the seventh but failed to score. In the bottom of the seventh, SSU Pointer singled which drove in Brian Johnson, who led off the inning with a double.
SSU (19-17) ended the game with 17 hits while Presbyterian was led by Jared Combs who had two hits.
