2012: Barnes emerged as the secondary rushing leader for the Tigers in his junior year. Barnes totaled 316 rushing yards on 101 carries and one touchdown in 11 games. Receiving, Barnes had 11 yards on five receptions and one touchdown. He also had one kick return for 25 yards. Barnes’ longest rush was a 25-yard dash against Florida A&M on October 13. His longest reception was a 4-yarder against Howard University on September 29. Barnes amassed 316 total offensive yards on 101 plays, averaging 28.7 per game and 12 points. He also recorded two tackles.

2011: In his sophomore year, Barnes played in all 11 games, recording 184 rushing yards on 33 attempts with one touchdown; averaging 5.6 yards a carry. Barnes also racked up 97 receiving yards on 10 completions for a total of 281 offensive yards; an average of 25.5 yards a play. Barnes recorded a season high 61 yards on seven carries in the October 15 game against Florida A&M. His longest rush of the season was in the same game, on a 38-yard dash. His longest reception was in the opening game of the season against Albany State University when he recorded a 21-yard reception.

2010: The freshman rusher led the team with 119 carried for 583 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. Barnes played in all 11 games and averaged 4.7 yards per carry and 51.2 yards per game. He had a season-high 120 rushing yards along with one touchdown in SSU’s win over South Carolina State. His longest rush for 40 yards was against Florida A&M on Oct. 16.
