2012: In his sophomore year, McCarthy emerged as the Tigers primary kicker. He hit 4-of-6 field goal attempts, and totaled 1,298 yards on 28 kickoffs, averaging 46.4 yards an attempt. He went 15-for-19 on PAT attempts, with a total of 27 points. McCarthy kicked a season-high 33-yard field goal against Howard University on September 29. In the October 20 game against Edward Waters, he hit a perfect 6-for-6 on PAT attempts. In the same game he racked up 340 yards on seven kickoffs.
